Centro and South Union Bakery in the Temple for Performing Arts downtown are closed this week for renovations. Work began Sunday, and Paul Rottenberg, president of Orchestrate Management, which runs the restaurants, said he hoped to reopen both businesses by Friday. The floors in both establishments will be retiled or recarpeted, and the interior walls will be repainted. The carpet has actually been in storage for about four months, Rottenberg said, “we just couldn’t find a time to do it and afford to close.” Management waited until after “Triple Espresso” ended its season in the theater upstairs in the Temple and is trying to complete the work before the Civic Center of Greater Des Moines begins its next show in the building. “It’s a sizable investment, but we think it’s worth it,” Rottenberg said.
