Rankings for Principal Financial Group Inc. and ING Americas Holding Group remained unchanged from 2006, with Principal remaining the ninth-largest life insurance company and ING Americas the fourth largest in terms of total premiums. Principal increased from a 2006 market share of 3.37 percent, while ING gained nearly a full percentage point from its 4.24 percent share in 2006. Nationwide moved down from No. 13 in 2006, dropping from 1.99 percent of U.S. market share to 1.74 percent in 2007.
