Two Iowa teachers receive national award for math and science teaching
Two Iowa teachers have been selected to receive Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching, the Iowa Department of Education announced. Zachry Christensen, a math interventionist and instructional coach at Perkins Elementary School in Des Moines, and Ashley Flatebo, an instructional coach at John Adams Middle School in Mason City, each received a citation signed by President Donald Trump and a $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation. They will be recognized in an awards ceremony later this year in Washington, D.C. The program recognizes outstanding teachers for their contributions to the teaching and learning of mathematics and science.
