Bidwell Riverside Center and Hawthorn Hill, two Des Moines-area nonprofit organizations that provide assistance to homeless and underprivileged individuals and families, announced they will partner to form a separate management service organization, effective in January. The MSO, a 501(c)3 nonprofit, will enhance the financial stability of both organizations and expand capacity while allowing each to retain independent identities and services, the organizations said in a release. The two organizations, which share roots in the United Methodist Church and are United Way of Central Iowa partner agencies, will continue to have separate boards of directors. Hawthorn Hill Executive Director Tim Shanahan, who has also been acting director for Bidwell Riverside since November 2015, will continue to lead both organizations.
