Union membership declines in Iowa
The percentage of Iowa’s workers who are union members declined from 2014 to 2015, while the national average stayed steady, according to a new report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The percentage of Iowa’s employed who were union members dropped from 10.7 percent to 9.6 percent. The percentage of Iowa workers who are represented by unions dipped a bit as well, from 12.6 percent to 12.2 percent.
Nationally, 11.1 percent of employed workers were union members in 2014 and 2015. Union membership has been declining across the country; it was 20.1 percent nationally in 1983, the first year of the BLS survey. Read the full report here.
