Volunteers are needed for United Way of Central Iowa’s Graduation Walk on Aug. 25 from 9 a.m. to noon. About 300 volunteers will pair up with Des Moines Public Schools staff to visit the homes of middle and high school students at risk of dropping out. Many students reached by this event are behind on credits, are missing a lot of school, or are struggling academically. Volunteers will connect personally with students, share information about the importance of a high school diploma, and offer resources and support that leads students on a path to graduate.
