Counting all of its variations for both boys and girls, Charlie was the most popular baby name in 2019 for newborns at UnityPoint Health-Des Moines hospitals. Whether it was spelled Charley, Charleigh or even Charlotte, the popular name was chosen by 41 families for their little bundle of joy. For boys, Jack/Jackson and other variations was the most common name, given to 35 babies. Also popular were Will/William (chosen 23 times) and Oliver (22). For girls, Harper (21) and Averi/Averie/Avery (13) were the most popular. Year-to-date through Dec. 1, 5,089 babies have been born at UnityPoint Health-Des Moines’ three hospitals (Iowa Methodist, Methodist West and Iowa Lutheran), up about 9% over year-to-date 2018 births.
