Hours after University of Iowa faculty leaders told colleagues the university is suspending seven center closures, UI officials reiterated plans to continue with closures, the Cedar Rapids Gazette reports. In a newsletter, UI professor and American Association of University Professors chapter President Katherine Tachau said faculty were expecting to hear an announcement “in the days to come” that closures would be suspended and furloughs placed on hold; however, UI spokeswoman Anne Bassett denied the news, stating that the university would continue with furlough and closure plans announced last week.
