The Iowa Utilities Board on Tuesday approved a settlement that sets up ratemaking principles for Alliant Energy’s $1 billion addition of up to 500 megawatts of wind power. The board found that Alliant’s approach will reduce its reliance on coal and natural gas and will benefit ratepayers, who will pay “just and reasonable rates.” Alliant had asked for early action on the ratemaking so that it could pursue federal production tax credits.
