Vilsack to keynote Farm Bureau session Dec. 7
U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack will give the keynote address at the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation’s annual meeting at Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center in Des Moines. Vilsack will speak at about 8:30 a.m., following an awards ceremony and an address by Farm Bureau President Craig Hill. Vilsack, the former Iowa governor, has supported farmers’ voluntary efforts to improve water quality but also has criticized state leaders for not developing a comprehensive water quality initiative after Des Moines Water Works filed a federal lawsuit against drainage districts in three northwest Iowa counties over nitrate pollution. The Farm Bureau’s annual meeting runs Dec. 6-7. Read the full news release.
