Weekly unemployment, injury benefits to increase in July
Maximum weekly benefits paid to Iowans receiving unemployment insurance benefits and to workers injured on the job will increase July 3, Iowa Workforce Development announced. An increase in wages covered by unemployment insurance triggered the rise in benefits. The average annual wage for insured Iowa workers increased to $43,878.12 in 2015, up from $42,327.64 the previous year. The new benefit payment schedules will apply to people who file new unemployment insurance claims on or after July 3, and to workers injured on the job on or after July 1. The new weekly maximum benefits will range from $447 for a single worker to $548 for a worker with four or more dependents. Iowa Workforce Development officials said about half of those eligible for unemployment insurance benefits have enough earnings to qualify for the maximum benefit.
