Wellmark awards more than $277,000 in Community Kickstarter grants

An edible landscape project at Iowa Lutheran Hospital, outdoor exercise equipment for Evelyn K. Davis Park in Des Moines and a project to reduce food insecurity in the Drake Neighborhood are among the initiatives to receive funding through the Wellmark Foundation’s Community Kickstarter awards program. The Ankeny Market Pavilion project in Ankeny also received a $10,000 grant as part of $277,654 awarded to 30 projects intended to make Iowa communities more active or improve access to healthy foods. The winning projects were chosen out of 79 submissions. “All of these communities and organizations are committed to improving the health and well-being of their citizens,” said Stephanie Perry, Wellmark Foundation manager. “These grants fund projects will have a communitywide impact now and for future generations.” To see the full list of grant recipients, click here.
