Working on the premise that everybody deserves to live, work, learn and play in a safe and healthy environment, the Wellmark Foundation is expanding its focus this year to include grant proposals that provide access to nutritious and affordable foods and outdoor spaces that promote active living and active transportation. “The Wellmark Foundation continues to evolve to make sure people in Iowa and South Dakota know that community health improvement begins at home,” said Stephanie Perry, the foundation’s manager. Funding community initiatives that help elderly people remain active and safe in their homes is an example of the expansion, she said. Requests for proposals are now available online for the Healthy Communities small grants.
