The West Des Moines Historical Society (WDMHS) recently took possession of a late-1800s log cabin from the State Historical Society of Iowa to include as part of West Des Moines’ Legacy Woods project. The cabin will be rebuilt and featured in the Legacy Woods’ Historic Campus area, according to a news release. It was originally built by William Nolte as a home for his wife and 12 children. West Des Moines residents Marjorie and Ralph Lynn purchased the cabin in 1974 and reconstructed it in 1976 with the intent of turning it into a museum. In 1985, the Lynns donated the cabin to the state of Iowa. WDMHS and the city of West Des Moines are raising $100,000 to help rebuild the structure. More information about the cabin is available on the WDMHS website.
