After breaking ground in September, the Promenade Plaza North building at West Glen Town Center is taking shape and the developer is lining up possible tenants.
“We are ready to rock and roll and finish the project,” said Karen Hallagin, the chief operating officer of West Glen Town Center. “We want to get everybody to move in and open their doors.”
The four-story building, located at 5550 Wildrose Lane in West Des Moines, will house retail on the first floor and office space on the top three floors.
One tenant, The Regus Group plc, has already been signed for the fourth level of the 100,000-square-foot building. This is the Dallas-based company’s first Iowa location.
“Regus … is the third-largest tenant in the world, and it is great to have that caliber of tenant,” Hallagin said.
West Glen is still in discussions with a handful of local and national office tenants to fill the building, she said.
Promenade Plaza, which is about halfway finished, is expected to be complete in October 2008. The steel framework is complete, the slab has been poured, the roof decking is on and the framing and masonry work have begun.
This summer, construction will focus on the exterior elevation, glass and façade. Inside construction is scheduled to begin around July.
Three buildings are currently under construction at West Glen, and Hallagin said there will be 10 in the works before the end of the year. The Drury Inn & Suites, a 180-room regional hotel, is slated to open in September 2008, and Stone Brook Terrace, an outdoor entertainment area, is expected to open in June. All of the construction at West Glen is anticipated to be completed within the next three years, she said.
Hy-Vee in Altoona
Hy-Vee Inc. is constructing a brand-new and much larger supermarket, right next door to its old store in Altoona.
“It is a good market for us,” said Chris Friesleben, director of communications for Hy-Vee. “People on that side of town certainly deserve an updated store, and we are excited to bring that to them.”
The new building, located at 108 Eighth St. S.W., is on track to be open in late 2008. Eventually the old store will be torn down for additional parking. The new store will total 82,500 square feet; the old store contains 41,055 square feet.
Last week, the concrete was poured for the footings of the building. This week the precast paneling is scheduled to arrive and, Friesleben said, within the next couple of weeks the framing will begin to go up.
A city-planned bike trail, including wetlands, a memorial and a pond, will be near the new store and its patio area.
