After more than four decades at the Bank of America Building in downtown Des Moines, Whitfield & Eddy PLC will move Jan. 18 to the top two floors of the Hub Tower at 699 Walnut St. With the move comes renovated offices, a new logo and new branding as Whitfield & Eddy Law.

The new offices will feature collaboration zones to improve practice group productivity, larger administration and staff offices and a café for breaks and relaxation.

The firm’s 38 attorneys also voted for smaller office sizes. In addition, space-eating legal files have been converted to digital files. The firm will move a handful of attorneys from its Ankeny office to Des Moines, bringing staffing in the city to 38. The firm also has three attorneys in an office in Mount Pleasant. Brooks Borg Skiles Architecture Engineering LLP and Workspace Inc. worked on the design and furnishing of the new offices. Saturday Mfg. Inc. created the new logo.

Marc Hollander, Whitfield & Eddy’s business development coordinator, said the firm was striving for efficiency. Its footprint has been reduced to 31,036 square feet at Hub Tower, down from 37,204 at the Bank of America Building, and its storage space will drop to 4,000 square feet from 6,163 square feet. Some of that reduction can be credited with the conversion of paper files to digital files. In the past year, the firm’s scanning department scanned more than 1 million pages, taking on 180,000 pages in the last month alone.

Whitfield & Eddy launched its planning in 2014 and started renovations at Hub Tower in August 2015, Hollander said.
