The Windsor Heights City Council passed the town’s fiscal 2009 budget at last week’s meeting, reducing expenditures in its proposed budget by $1 million after residents complained of an increased tax levy. The $1 million reduction means the city hall project, which would have expanded and reconfigured the building, will not take place in the fiscal year starting July 1.

The city still raised its levy rate to $14.79484 per $1,000 of taxable property valuation from $12.40 to cover several capital projects, including construction of a community center and public restrooms at Colby Park and for redevelopment along Hickman Road. It originally planned to raise its levy to $15.05. The budget now will be $11.8 million, a jump from $5.8 million this year. The tax levy increase will pay for $5.7 million in bonds sold to cover the projects.
