The World Food Prize Foundation, in collaboration with Drake University, has announced a new internship initiative providing 50 paid positions over 5 years for Iowa students focused on agriculture and rural Iowa. The foundation is partnering with the Jay N. Darling Institute and Drake Law School. Supported by the William C. Knapp Charitable Foundation, philanthropic donors and Syngenta Group, the program, named the World Food Prize Foundation Darling Award, features two distinct tracks: one focused on advancing rural farming communities based at the Darling Institute and another centered on food and agriculture law based at the law school. There will be 10 internships each of the five years, evenly divided between the Darling Institute and Drake Law School. According to a news release, students selected from the Darling Institute will work on projects that strengthen food and nutrition security, foster innovation in food and agribusiness, and support sustainable agriculture. Interns from the law school will be placed with Iowa businesses with departments on food and agriculture law.
