Year-over-year bankruptcy filings down 13 percent
Bankruptcy filings for the 12-month period ending March 31 fell 13 percent compared to bankruptcy filings from the same period a year earlier, according to statistics released today by the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts. March 2012 bankruptcy filings totaled 1,367,006, compared with 1,571,183 bankruptcy cases filed in the 12-month period ending March 31, 2011. The vast majority of bankruptcy filings, 97 percent, involved non-business debts. The number of filings for all types of cases decreased by double-digit percentages from the previous 12-month period.
