Ankeny and Ames are ranked among the best medium-sized cities for bicycling, PeopleForBikes, the U.S. bicycling industry’s trade association and a national advocacy nonprofit, announced. Ankeny ranked second in the medium city category, which includes communities with populations between 50,000 and 300,000. Ames ranked eighth. The highest ranked community in the medium city category was Davis, Calif. PeopleForBikes’ rating system identifies the best cities for bicycling. A score between 80 and 100 indicates that most common destinations are accessible by safe, comfortable bike routes that serve people of all ages and abilities. Ankeny’s score was 74; Ames’ was 60.
