The 2022 Polk County Fair started on July 16 and runs through this Friday at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines. More than 500 Polk County youths in 4-H, FFA and open class exhibits are exhibiting their work through livestock shows and other displays. “The Polk County Fair is an opportunity for local youth to showcase their skills and abilities through raising livestock, as well as through lesser-known project areas like the arts, communications or even in STEM disciplines – things like mechanics, tractor restoration and even woodworking are considered STEM projects,” said Marci Vinsand, Polk County 4-H county youth coordinator. Other activities at the fair this year include Bacon Buddies & Friends, a program started last year that pairs FFA or 4-H mentors with youths with intellectual or developmental disabilities, the eighth Annual Clover Dash 5K fundraiser, Polk County Fair king and queen coronation and the Bill Riley Talent Search. General admission is free and livestream links are available on polkcountyfairiowa.com.
