Opening things up

There have been a rash of openings in recent weeks in Greater Des Moines, with more to come.

  • Norwalk has what some might call an embarrassment of groundbreakings. Over one week beginning Oct. 23 officials will have an opportunity to turn spades on six projects, including two banks, a retail center, chiropractic office, dental clinic and a restaurant and tavern. Hollie Askey, the city’s economic development director, said new construction and renovations this year and next are valued at $47 million and will generate $1.85 million per year in property tax revenues.
  • In Urbandale, the Interstate 35-80 interchange at 100th Street can accommodate westbound on-ramp and eastbound off-ramp traffic. The interchange is the first of three major I-35/80 access projects in Urbandale’s Urban Loop. Work is already underway on a new interchange at Meredith Drive and a flyover ramp for Iowa Highway 141. These projects are scheduled to open in 2020. You can monitor the interchange projects here.
  • R&R Realty Group has completed its 45,000-square-foot Paradigm Building in Urbandale. Plans call for a second 45,000-square-foot section of the building to be added at a later date. Among its amenities are collaborative work areas and a rooftop patio.
