A new Crisis Stabilization-Transitional Living Center that provides support for people coping with mental illness will open in Ames in late November. The center is a cooperative program of Mary Greeley Medical Center, Story County and the Central Iowa Community Services mental health region, which supports more than 100 providers in 13 counties. It will provide care and support services to people with a diagnosis of mental illness or co-occurring diagnosis of mental illness and substance abuse. The eight-bed facility will serve adults 18 and older who are referred by a provider from Mary Greeley or other medical and mental health providers. An open house at the new facility at 124 S. Hazel St. in Ames will be held Oct. 23 from 4 to 6 p.m.
