Boone High School and Fareway Stores Inc. joined Gov. Kim Reynolds today in announcing the state’s first high school registered apprenticeship program in meat cutting. The program furthers the innovative work-based learning initiatives of Boone Edge, Future Ready Iowa and Executive Order No. 1 that established Iowa’s clearinghouse for work-based learning. The model for the meat-cutting registered apprenticeship program allows for a student to complete all or a part of the coursework online. The Boone School District is making the program available to high schools across the state. “The Boone Edge program is a comprehensive, community-based, collaborative learning environment that helps all students find their passion through work-based learning,” said Kris Byam, Boone High School principal.
