Oakridge receives grant for return to learn services

Oakridge Neighborhood has been awarded an $18,000 grant from the Greater Des Moines Disaster Recovery Fund to support its “return to learn” programming. According to a news release, the grant will help ensure parents’ economic stability and that students have a safe and supportive learning environment during the coronavirus pandemic. Oakridge provides services and programming to help adults and families succeed and become financially independent. It is one of the most diverse neighborhoods in Des Moines, with 66% immigrants and refugees from more than 23 countries. Ninety-nine percent of Oakridge Neighborhood residents are low-income.
