Grinnell College recently opened its new Admission and Student Financial Services building on the Grinnell campus. The $12 million, two-story facility provides a technology-rich presentation room where visitors are invited to learn more about Grinnell College, the college said in a release. The ASFS also includes private spaces for conversations about admission and financial aid, as well as a waiting room with a large stone fireplace and wood-paneled cathedral ceiling. Environmentally friendly features include LED lighting throughout the facility, bioswales to help control stormwater runoff, and a geothermal heating and cooling system. That system will be shared with the adjacent Humanities and Social Studies Center. The newly constructed portion of the HSSC will open in January, to be followed by the renovation and expansion of two historic buildings: Alumni Recitation Hall and Carnegie Hall, which will be incorporated into the HSSC.
