We writers and editors at the Business Record tuck away potential good reads like squirrels in the fall, and occasionally some remain buried until spring. Here’s one from January that I dug up from our Asana files where we store such future nuggets — a blog post from patent attorney Todd Van Thomme with Nyemaster Goode’s Des Moines office on what an upcoming change in China’s patent laws could mean for Iowa companies. The new amendment, called the “fourth amendment,” marks the first changes to Chinese patent law since 2008 and is scheduled to take effect on June 1. Van Thomme spoke with Stephen Yang, managing partner of the Chinese law firm IP March. According to Yang: “The fourth amendment is a long-awaited enhancement of patent protection and process in China. It provides clarity for companies looking to expand in China and creates a more harmonized practice, particularly in the areas of design patent, drug patent and patent-term adjustment.”
