Make-A-Wish Iowa celebrates wishes granted at annual gala
Make-A-Wish Iowa recently celebrated the granting of 40 wishes for children with critical illnesses in what the organization says was a record-breaking event. Make-A-Wish Iowa held its annual Des Moines Gala on Saturday, where supporters gathered in person for the first time in more than a year to raise funds that will grant wishes for children and their families. Currently, 330 children in Iowa are waiting for their wish to be granted. Half of those wishes have been delayed because of the coronavirus pandemic. Despite the pandemic, Make-A-Wish Iowa was able to grant 108 wishes in 2020, with 41 of the wishes from the Des Moines area. “Our chapter wouldn’t be able to grant these wishes at the caliber we grant them without the generous support from our donors,” Sara Kurovski, president and CEO of Make-A-Wish Iowa, said in a news release. “Seeing our community come together to raise funds for wishes shows us that together, we can transform lives, one wish at a time.”
