The city of Norwalk has purchased 177 acres on the northwest corner of Elk Horn Street and Iowa Highway 28 that will be a park called Serenity Woods. A portion of the North River runs through the middle of the park. Norwalk used $300,000 in local option sales and service tax funds to pay for the land. The park is not yet open to the public. The city’s parks and recreation department is working to make the park accessible and to provide parking. When open, the park will be able to be used for hiking and other outdoor activities. Photo: An aerial view of Serenity Woods, a 177-acre area recently purchased by the city of Norwalk.
