Des Moines Register: Meredith Corp. sued the new owner of Sports Illustrated on Monday for more than $1 million over unpaid services. Attorneys for Meredith allege that the magazine’s owner, TheMaven, ignored invoices for months and are still $1.1 million behind on bills. As part of a transition agreement last year, Meredith said it would provide some work for Sports Illustrated, including accounting, human resources, IT and website support. Meredith acquired Sports Illustrated as part of its January 2018 purchase of Time Inc. The Des Moines media company then sold the assets of the magazine to Authentic Brands Group in May 2019. A couple of weeks later, Authentic Brands licensed Sports Illustrated’s publishing rights to TheMaven.
