Kim Reynolds this week announced $5 million in funding from the Coronavirus Relief Fund to support the Future Ready Iowa Employer Innovation Fund, a move that’s drawing praise from AMOS, a broad-based organization of nearly 40 faith-based, nonprofit and neighborhood organizations. The organization held a virtual summit on July 23 to present a plan for job training programs, and called on Reynolds to use federal CARES Act funds to help workers reenter the workforce on stronger footing. The funding announced by Reynolds is intended to provide funding for employers, community organizations and nonprofits to provide training, books, tools and wraparound support for Iowans participating in training programs for high-demand jobs. The application process opened Wednesday and will close Sept. 16. The maximum available award will be $100,000 per applicant, the release stated. The Rev. Benjamin Bell Jr., one of the leaders of AMOS, said in a news release that the funds will help Iowans traumatized by job loss. “We know that workers need not only training to be able to access higher-wage work, but also support for that trauma, childcare access, and assistance to help them complete a training program and be ready to re-enter the workforce,” he said.
