Borlaug-Ruan internship awards announced at World Food Prize
The World Food Prize Foundation recognized two students for their exceptional research achievements as 2019 Borlaug-Ruan International interns. Donald Gee was named the recipient of the 2020 John Chrystal Intern Award, and Andie Pinga was named the recipient of the 2020 Elaine Szymoniak Award. The awards were announced during this month’s World Food Prize Laureate Ceremony, held virtually because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Gee, originally from Des Moines and currently studying civil and environmental engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology, was recognized for his research on improving springshed management and reviving springs with the International Center for Integrated Mountain Development in Kathmandu, Nepal. Pinga, from South Burlington, Vermont, was honored for her research with the M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation on barriers preventing mothers with children under the age of 2 from consuming diverse diets. Pinga is currently studying economics and anthropology at the University of Pennsylvania. More information on the awards can be found here.
