John McCarroll, executive director of university relations at Iowa State University for more than 22 years, is retiring from that position effective today. McCarroll, who was hired to lead the Office of University Relations in April 1997, has served under four presidents and two interim presidents while at Iowa State. Effective July 3, the office will be renamed the Office of Strategic Relations and Communications. ISU President Wendy Wintersteen has appointed Jacy Johnson, director of advancement for ISU Extension and Outreach, to serve as interim executive director of the office. Over the next year, Johnson will oversee development of a new framework and vision for university-wide communications and marketing. Wintersteen also appointed Brian Meyer and Rob Schweers to assist Johnson part-time on special assignments while maintaining their communications positions in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and provost’s office, respectively.
