Iowa stocks down in August
Eighteen of 21 Iowa-based companies posted stock price losses for the month of August. Of the remaining three, one was unchanged and two posted gains.
The two companies that saw gains were Heartland Express Inc. with a 3.68% gain and Casey’s General Stores Inc. at 3.67%. EMC Financial Group was unchanged for the month.
Ten of the 18 companies on the losing side posted double-digit percentage losses. The top three companies in declining stock prices were KemPharm Inc. with a 25.40% loss, Winnebago Industries Inc. with a 20.55% loss and Meredith Corp. with a 20.20% loss.
The Iowa Index, an unweighted average price of 21 Iowa-based public companies, decreased by 7.93% from July and was down 18.95% on a year-over-year basis.
By comparison, the Dow Jones industrial average lost 1.72% during the month and increased 1.69% from a year ago. The Nasdaq composite lost 2.6% during the month and decreased 1.81% from a year ago.
