Those wanting to help Anawim Housing bring a $66,000 grant to Des Moines have until Oct. 4 to vote in a national competition. The Des Moines organization focusing on affordable housing was selected as a finalist for the Gerry Rauenhorst Building Community Award. The national voting campaign includes eight nonprofits, with the winning nonprofit receiving a $66,000 grant award from the Opus Foundation. Anawim was nominated and selected by the Opus Group in Des Moines, receiving $5,000 for becoming a finalist. “Anawim is honored to be a finalist but we are now seeking large-scale community support as we represent Des Moines and our state in this nationwide competition,” a statement from the organization said. “The Building Community Award would help Anawim continue to grow our programs and provide safe, quality, affordable housing for hundreds of individuals and families in our community.” Des Moines is the smallest city in the competition and was in third place as of Friday morning. Vote here through Oct. 4.
