The city of Ankeny and Polk County plan to build a $7 million community center in Ankeny on city ground located between West First and Ash streets, the government entities announced. Polk County will contribute $3.5 million toward the construction of the facility; Ankeny will pay for remainder of the project’s costs. While Ankeny will own and maintain the building, Polk County will use the facility to provide services for senior citizens. The facility will be the new home for the daily congregate meals that are currently held at the Neveln Center. Ankeny will offer programs at the center in the evenings and on weekends for residents of all ages. Construction is expected to begin in the summer and be completed by late 2021.
