The Des Moines Social Club's buyer has backed out of the sale. Matt Abbott, a Kansas City, Mo.-based developer, had been in a due-diligence period before a deadline to close on the $3.1 million sale of the historic Des Moines Firehouse No. 1, which housed the club at 900 Mulberry St. Abbott Properties opted to withdraw its purchase offer, according to an email shared with the Des Moines Register.
