Helena Industries LLC is breaking ground on a 103,550-square-foot chemical formulation and packaging facility at its Des Moines plant, CropLife magazine reported. The new facility is part of a multiphase, multimillion-dollar development project, which upon completion will bring as many as 50 new jobs to Greater Des Moines. The company said the start of construction is “another huge step forward in the strategic relationship between Helena Industries and Corteva Agriscience, which has committed a large volume of its liquid herbicide formulation and packaging business to Helena Industries at the Des Moines facility.” The Iowa Economic Development Authority in July approved $1.1 million in investment tax credits and tax refunds for the project, which has an estimated cost of $47 million. The city of Des Moines is providing $1.6 million in tax abatements. The expansion is on land that the company purchased from the city immediately east of Helena’s operations at 3525 Vandalia Road.
