Iowa Workforce Development announced today it has awarded more than $3.6 million to 88 recipients to fund the creation or expansion of Registered Apprenticeship programs across the state. The Iowa Apprenticeship Act (15B) provides $3 million annually to support ongoing costs in any active Iowa Registered Apprenticeship program. The other source of state funding, the Iowa Registered Apprenticeship Development Fund (15C), has $760,000 available in funding each year to give to programs that have created or expanded with a new program in a high-demand occupation. Iowa saw record growth in Registered Apprenticeship programs in fiscal year 2021, adding 51 new occupations, 4,515 apprentices and 197 programs, according to a press release. This year’s funding is estimated to support 5,957 apprentices in Iowa. The list of 15B awardees is available at this link, and the 15C awardees can be viewed at this link.
