Iowa Workforce Development announced today it has awarded more than $3.6 million to 88 recipients to fund the creation or expansion of Registered Apprenticeship programs across the state. The Iowa Apprenticeship Act (15B) provides $3 million annually to support ongoing costs in any active Iowa Registered Apprenticeship program. The other source of state funding, the Iowa Registered Apprenticeship Development Fund (15C), has $760,000 available in funding each year to give to programs that have created or expanded with a new program in a high-demand occupation. Iowa saw record growth in Registered Apprenticeship programs in fiscal year 2021, adding 51 new occupations, 4,515 apprentices and 197 programs, according to a press release.
