Gov. Kim Reynolds and the Department of Management Office of the Chief Information Officer announced Tuesday the publication of a new version of Iowa’s broadband availability map, reporting the conditions of broadband availability in accordance with federal grant guidelines at more than 1 million locations throughout the state. According to a news release, this fifth version of the map provides a more detailed view, identifying broadband services available to homes and business owners across the state as reported by broadband providers. “We are making important progress to connect all Iowans to high-speed broadband, but many communities remain unserved,” Reynolds said in the release. Locations with broadband speeds lower than 100 mbps download and 20 mbps upload may be eligible for future grant funding opportunities issued by Reynolds’ Empower Rural Iowa Broadband Program, the release said. The publication of the map launches a 30-day challenge period where the public, broadband providers and communities can submit information to the OCIO wherever they believe the map incorrectly reports broadband service data.
