The Mid-Iowa Council of the Boy Scouts of America has awarded Des Moines community leader Suku Radia its highest honor for community volunteers, the North Star Award. “We would be hard-pressed to find a brighter, more dependable light in our community,” said Jack Hilmes, Mid-Iowa Council president. “The guidance he has provided to his business associates, friends, community partners and mentees is legendary. He has transformed our community for good.” Radia has served on the boards of more than three dozen nonprofits and has raised more than $50 million for Des Moines-area causes. The retired Bankers Trust CEO helped the independent community bank to amass $4.5 billion in assets and to contribute more than $1 million per year to charitable organizations.
