Bravo Greater Des Moines and ICON Water Trails are collaborating to connect public art with regional waterways in Central Iowa. According to a news release, the two nonprofit organizations are investing in a $500,000, two-year grant program to help fund public art along Central Iowa waterways. Maggie McClelland, ICON Water Trails director, said the collaboration with Bravo will enhance the outdoor experience in the region. “ICON is thrilled to be partnering with Bravo to offer this unique opportunity to merge public art and outdoor recreation,” she said in the release.  “Through this grant, we’ll be able to enhance the quality of life for Central Iowans by strengthening and diversifying how they engage with our waterways.” Sally Dix, executive director of Bravo, said arts and culture are connected to every regional priority. “This program will provide essential funding to explore intersections between public art and recreation, water quality and environmental appreciation,” she said. “By amplifying the impact of these projects, the region and its residents win.” According to the release, any community in a current 28E agreement with both Bravo and ICON are eligible to apply for up to 50% of the cost of a proposed project. Projects can include sculptures, murals, landscape architectural work, digital media or community art with a useful lifespan of at least three years. Applications open for the first year of the program on March 6, 2023.
