Operators of Shag’s, a nightclub in downtown Des Moines’ Court Avenue district, have agreed to have their liquor license suspended for 14 days and pay a $1,000 fine for allowing lewd behavior to occur at the establishment. According to informatioprovided to the City Council, one or more of the establishment’s patrons indecently exposed themselves during an event held at Shag’s on Sept. 17. In addition, a sex act was either performed or simulated during the event, according to the council information. Operators of Shag’s, located at 216 Court Ave., waived the right to a hearing and agreed to the settlement,  according to information provided to the council, which will vote on the agreement at its meeting on Monday. The settlement comes as elected officials and others search for ways to quell crime and other problems plaguing the Court Avenue Entertainment district. The Greater Des Moines Partnership and the Polk County and Des Moines governments in mid-September hired Responsible Hospitality Institute to conduct a Sociable City Assessment of Court Avenue. The California-based group is creating a plan to tackle safety-related issues.
