5 nominees selected for Iowa Court of Appeals vacancy

Five Iowans have been nominated by the State Judicial Nominating Commission to fill a vacancy on the Iowa Court of Appeals that occurred following the appointment of Justice David May to the Iowa Supreme Court. The five were selected from an applicant pool of 13. The nominating commission met this week to interview applicants and select nominees. The slate of nominees was forwarded to Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds, who has 30 days to appoint a new judge. The nominees are:

  • Tyler Buller, an assistant attorney general for the Iowa Department of Justice.
  • Judge Alan Heavens, the administrative judge for Allamakee County and Clayton County.
  • Judge Patrick McElyea, a district court judge in District 7, which includes Cedar, Clinton, Jackson, Muscatine and Scott counties.
  • William Miller, a partner in the law firm of Dorsey & Whitney, located in Des Moines.
  • Judge Amy Moore, a district court judge in District 2, which includes Story and 21 other counties in north-central Iowa.
