Enhance Iowa Board awards $1 million CAT grant to Waterloo

The Enhance Iowa Board has awarded a $1 million Community Attraction and Tourism grant to transform two city parks in Waterloo. The Transforming Gates and Byrnes Parks Project has a total project cost of $16.9 million and includes various improvements at the parks. Gates Park will have a splash pad, inclusion park, amphitheater, lighted basketball courts and a roller-skating track. Byrnes Park will feature a new aquatic center with a slide tower, 25-yard lap pool, zero-depth entry play area, bathhouse and mechanical building. The Enhance Iowa Program encourages the construction of recreational, cultural, educational or entertainment facilities to enhance the quality of life in Iowa. So far, 105 CAT grants have been awarded, totaling $34.5 million.
