The measure, House File 570, removes barriers to use of school property by clarifying liability protection for schools. A recent survey of Iowa’s school superintendents demonstrated that more than half of the schools surveyed do not engage in shared use agreements because of concerns about liability, according to the American Heart Association’s Midwest Affiliate, which is spearheading theOpen the Doors for Health campaign. In a survey, 64 percent of school superintendents said they would be more inclined to open their facilities with liability protection. The bill, which the Senate approved 48-0, now goes to Gov. Terry Branstad for his consideration.
