Iowa unemployment rate dipped in February
Iowa’s unemployment rate dropped to 4.1 percent in February from 4.2 percent in January, Iowa Workforce Development said today. The state’s jobless rate was 4.4 percent one year ago. The U.S. unemployment rate was 5.5 percent in February. The ranks of the unemployed dropped by 1,700 from January and 4,000 over the year to 70,100. An additional 1,100 people found jobs in February bringing total employment 1,646,100 in February. Over the year, employment has grown by 27,100. Nonfarm employment dropped by 400 jobs. Manufacturing led job gains with 1,200, followed by education and health care at 1,000. Financial services added 800 jobs after two months of losses. Trade and transportation shed the most jobs, 1,500, followed by professional and business services, down 600, and information services, down 400.
