Kum & Go LC  paid $3.5 million on March 23 for a former Dahl’s Foods store at 5003 E.P. True Parkway in West Des Moines, according a deed that was filed Wednesday with the Polk County recorder. The property was one of three Dahl’s stores that were not included in the purchase of the majority of its assets in federal bankruptcy court by Associated Wholesale Grocers Inc. of Kansas City, Kan., and related entities. Dahl’s parent, Foods Inc., filed for bankruptcy on Nov. 9. The auction of its assets concluded Jan. 23 in U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Iowa in Des Moines. Kum & Go plans to build a new store at the site with extended food and fuel offerings, then market what property remains for redevelopment, a spokeswoman said.
