From child soldier to South Sudan’s director for finance
Mandela Wani Michael, a Southern Sudanese who was once a child soldier with the Sudanese People’s Liberation Army, will speak at Drake University at 5 p.m. Wednesday in Meredith 101. Mandela was brought in for a weeklong trip by ChildVoice International Inc., which was started by two Iowans, and works to empower war-affected youth through skills training, counseling and basic education in war torn Uganda. Michael will speak from personal experience to the ongoing struggles in South Sudan and that region of Africa, and to the good and bad of foreign aid and assistance. The event is free and open to the public.
