Six Iowa employers were recognized today for volunteering by their employees. The Employer Volunteer Initiative Advisory Council held a six-week campaign where participating employers encouraged employees to volunteer and log their hours. Winners were selected in three categories based on the highest average number of volunteer hours per employee. Winners include: small employer: Worldly Goods in Ames, honorable mention – Iowa Department for the Blind; medium employer: West Music Co. in Coralville, honorable mention – Iowa Economic Development Authority; large employer- Central College in Pella, honorable mention – Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield. In its inaugural year, the Give Back Iowa Challenge had 50 participating organizations representing 48,686 employees in Iowa who logged 41,702 volunteer hours benefiting Iowa communities.
